Local Flava/Soundcloud Diggin’: Akira As Astronaughty
Welcome to the first proper Local Flava column. This column will focus on Indonesian dance music producers/djs. As a country with over 250 millions people we definitely have tons of potential producers. Some of the top producers from Indonesia are Angger Dimas and Mahesa Utara and many more are bound to follow in their foot steps. One such producer is Akira As Astronaughty a.k.a. DMust Akira.
He’s been around for a few years, content being the man behind the screen. Now he’s ready to breakout on his own with the release of his solo album “Attracted To The Light“. Speaking of album, his sound can be describe as melodic electro. The best way to describe it is take a bit of Daft Punk add some Fred Falke and small dose of Aeroplane & Digitalism, throw in a lil’ bit of Justice and MSTRKRFT but turndown the distortion level, and occasionally sprinkle some Skrillex and you have Akira As Astronaughty. In other words, its the French sound. Yes, we believe that Akira As Astronaughty is gonna make some noise in the upcoming years. Keep your ears open for this guy.

whoa… new single from Korn feature Skrillex. The result is a hybrid nu-metal/dubstep number. It’s good but I prefer the remix done by Autoerotique. It’s a dirty and nasty electro/number number along the line of Felix Cartal and MSTRKRFT. Get ready to mosh to this one!

Here’s a sneak peek to MSTRKRFT’s upcoming 3rd full length titled Beards Again. I must say that MSTRKRFT is getting good at creating new sounds with their subsequent releases. After briefly experimenting with more club friendly sound now they are back to their roots with more rock oriented song. I feel like hearing Iron Maiden in a club with this new tune. Rock on dude!

After staying quite for a while, our favorite Canadian dj/producer duo is back on the production side. Here’s a couple tunes that will remind you why MSTRKRFT was the darling of the nurave/indie dance crowd. First is a remix of Laidback Luke’s Till Tonight that starts of like typical Laidback Luke production until the swirling lead kicks in and drive the tune into its apex, guaranteeing hands in the air moment anywhere and anytime you hear this tune. The second one is a cheeky remix of The A-Team’s theme. This one is truer to MSTRKRFT sound with its distorted guitar sounding lead and its more rock based composition. All I can say, MSTRKRFT is back!

Bounce to da dubstep
There has been tons of remixes for this massive hit from MSTRKRFT’s latest album Fist of God but, none ever captured my attention as well as this one. Doorly’s take on MSTRKRFT’s Bounce gives it a much needed bounce (no pun intended!) and turn it into a monster dub step number.
It’s a big ZERO!
The new Yeah yeah Yeahs album “It’s Blitz” might be a big departure from their previous sound, nonetheless it was an excellent body of work. But if you prefer a more dumbed down version of it then look further than this rework from Canadian duo MSTRKRFT. It got all that trade mark MSTRKRFT sound that will work any dance floor.

Erol Alkan is in town tonight and …
Okay guys.. so excited to see Erol Alkan tonight at Blowfish as he’s scheduled to make a stop in Jakarta b4 heading out to Singapore to play at Zouk Out ’08. I was all gung-ho about Zouk Out this year because they have Erol and my current favorite MSTRKRFT in the line up. Unfortunately, MSTRKRFT cancelled, therefore I’m staying in Jakarta to catch Erol. Erol, here I come!
In other news, MSTRKFT have finally announced that their follow up album (possibly called Fist Of God) should be out on March 17th via Dim Mok/Downtown Records. They said this album sees the group flirting with “darker, underground disco and house, with elements of American rock music” and features E-40, Freeway, and Lil’ Mo. Can’t wait!
